Hewlett Packard is not acquiring cloud storage firm Box, CBR understands.

Rumours that HP was about to make a move for the startup, which is set to IPO this April, were across Twitter this week, while Forbes put an article up about it.

However, CBR can reveal that the purported acquisition is not taking place, according to a source close to Box, while Forbes appeared later to have pulled the story.

The IPO could value the nine-year-old company at more than $2bn, despite recent criticism from rival Egnyte, whose CEO, Vineet Jain, said Box’s US data centres were a disadvantage for European customers fearful of NSA spying.
