Santa Clara-based Fujitsu Personal Systems Inc has launched the 325Point RF, claiming it to be the first high performance mobile computer with fully integrated wireless local area networking capability. The tablet personal computer incorporates Proxim Inc’s RangeLAN wireless adaptor and is free of cables, external antenna housings, and mounting hardware. The new product uses spread spectrum technology to give users interference-free local network capability for transparent wireless client-server and peer-to-peer communications. The 325Point RF features a communications range of up to 800 feet and a data rate of 242Kbps. The company claims the 325Point RF will operate in any client-server or peer-to-peer local network system that includes a server or workstation equipped with Proxim’s RangeLAN/ISA wireless local network adaptor. The 325Point RF is based around a 25MHz Am386SXLV microprocessor. Main memory is expandable to 12Mb, and the unit has two Type I/II/III PCMCIA version 2.0 slots. There’s a 9.4 transflective or transmissive liquid crystal diode display with VGA support at 640 by 480 resolution. The machine is available now at between $2,500 amd $3,000, depending on the configuration.
