Four immigrants from Vietnam will be spending a less than happy Christmas: police and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents reckon they have smashed what they believe to be a leading gang involved in the theft of chips from Silicon Valley companies; San Jose police said they arrested five members of the gang after a six-month operation culminated in a sting in which the gang believed it was about to steal a $10m shipment of Intel Corp 80486 microprocessors; they arrested four men and a woman, all of Vietnamese origin, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery, but the alleged ringleader is still being sought; in another case, Oki Electric Industrial Co reports a theft of memory chips which could cause a deal of problems since they were still waiting to be tested.
