The EP Wing format for CD-ROM-based information retrieval systems around which Sony Corp, Fujitsu Ltd, dictionary publisher Iwanami Shoten Co, Dai-Nippon Printing Co and Toppan Printing Co have agreed to develop systems, aims to set standards for index structures for key-words, and menu data structures for the attainment of objectives, as well as use of JIS codes for character codes, definition of display control codes for carriage return and subscripting, and recording format for dot image data; it is being defined at the application level, on top of the ISO9660 standard for file management, and the Yellow Book CD-ROM standard at the hardware level.
