Cloud computing, big data, and trusted IT applications provider EMC has integrated its Data Domain Boost (DD Boost) with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) to provide efficient database backup.
DD Boost distributes part of the deduplication process to the Oracle database server and enables RMAN to directly manage Data Domain replication.
Oracle database administrators (DBAs) can gain complete control over their Oracle database backup and disaster recovery by integrating Oracle RMAN native backup and recovery utility and Data Domain systems.
EMC claims, integrating Data Domain systems with Oracle RMAN via DD Boost will enable EMC to deliver new levels of manageability, functionality and performance.
Data Domain Boost can improve Oracle backup performance by up to 50% while lowering LAN bandwidth requirements by up to 99%,the company claimed.
The company said DD Boost also helps lower storage costs by enabling 10x to 30x reductions in backup storage and the CPU load is reduced by 20% to 40% during backup activities while delivering backups race across the network with throughput rates of up to 26.3TB per hour.
In addition, DD Boost simplifies the database recovery process by enabling DBAs to manage onsite and offsite backup copies by controlling Data Domain replication from RMAN with full catalog consistency.
The Data Domain Boost also features a consolidated backup storage across the enterprise and its Data Domain Data Invulnerability Architecture delivers continuous recovery verification, fault detection and healing of Oracle backup data.
