The Russian-US joint venture Daltelecom International, based in Khabarovsk, Russia and not to be confused with joint venture Interdaltelekom, has built an earth station close to Khabarovsk and has developed a network of switching stations covering Khabarovsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsk and Blagoveshchensk. Each switch is capable of serving up to 200 users which will be increased to 1,500 users in the future. One minute of international speech access will cost a Daltelecom user $4.00. The company claims this is four to five times less than cost of the international services provided by the Khabarovsk city telephone network. The registration fee for the service is $1,500, and there is a monthly fee of $50. Daltelecom is also having discussions about the creation of a cellular mobile telephone system in Khavarovsk. Daltelecom is jointly owned by JDI International Inc, the DalREO amalgamation and the Khabarovsk regional communications enterprise.
