Ambitious and fast-growing San Joseer Chips & Technologies Inc has diversified further with the formation of a Mass Storage Operation as a new business division dedicated to providing OEM customers with integrated high performance silicon- and software based controllers for hard and floppy disk drive storage technologies for AT-alike, PS/2 Micro Channel, and EISA compatible personal computers. The product line is aimed at both OEM builders of system-level personal computers and at disk drive vendors seeking to meet the rapidly changing demands of the industry. Its first major products include the 82C780 Micro Channel hard disk controller and the 82C784 Data Separator & MFM/2,7, RLL Endec chips. Those two chips comprise the Fixed Disk Adaptor ChipSet just introduced. Aimed at Micro Channel compatible computers using the ST506 Interface protocol, the Fixed Disk Adaptor set offers OEM customers the highest performance and integration levels available in the industry today. It is also claimed to be the only controller that which supports RLL, MFM and ESDI drives with a single controller. The Mass Storage Operation is already shipping the 820782 Micro Channel Hard Disk Data Manager and the 82C781 Micro Channel Fixed Disk Interface chip, and it will address other markets such as AT-compatible disk drive controllers, Small Computer System Interface embedded controllers and host adaptors, interface devices and other mass storage controllers.
