AVM GmbH of Berlin, Germany has launched version 3.1 of its NetWare multiprotocol router, claiming it brings greater efficiency, easier operation and extended scalability. The company claims version 3.1 contains the first implementation of NetWare 4 NetWare Directory Services spoofing, which it maintains can lead to significant savings in day-to-day operations under NetWare 4.1. Another cost saving mechanism featured is the ISDN Budget Manager. The ISDN hardware components have been enhanced, enabling the NetWare MPR to support up to four Primary Rate Interface controllers – a total of 120 ISDN links per router – for large wide area network infrastructures. It also features the ISDN-Controller B1 for the PCI bus. The active PC Card controller or the Mobile ISDN-Controller M1 can also be used in the router personal computer for economical portable-to-portable connections. Easier use of the router is facilitated as the initial installation and pre-configuration for IPX and TCP/IP are now performed by a menu-driven Fast Setup feature. ISDN Internet Profiles are included for quick dial-up connections to various Internet service providers using Point-to-Point Protocol over ISDN. In addition, support for dial-up back-up links has also been expanded to handle back-up scenarios with D64S and other types of leased lines. It is available now from SAS Distribution Ltd in the UK, and prices for the NetWare MPR for ISDN start at $2,000, while upgrades from version 2.X or 3.0 are available from around $700 upwards.
