3Com Corp’s Bigpicture division, which sells a video phone camera and PCI capture card for transmitting video phone calls over standard phone lines, is to work with video conferencing company White Pine Software Inc on a video hardware and software package aimed at the mass market. 3Com will take White Pine’s CU-SeeMe software-based video client as the basis for a multi-point video chat product for use on its Bigpicture video phones. The phones will also get access to servers running White Pine’s Meeting Point videoconferencing software. The two hope both consumers and corporates with home workers will be interested in the combined products.
