Hitachi Ltd has extended its existing OEM deal with Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp for graphics acceleration boards to use in its new line of NT workstations. Hitachi will use the E&S Lightning 1200 and Tornado 3000 graphics subsystems for its professional workstations. Lightning 1200 is E&S’s first low-cost graphics board based on its RealImage graphics technology, and Tornado 3000 is its most powerful graphics board product to date.
Hitachi is aiming the systems at customers ranging from mid-level CAD and entry-level digital content creators up to high-end digital content creation, high-end mechanical design, simulation and visualization. E&S won Hitachi as a customer through the acquisition of graphics board marker AccelGraphics Inc in 1998 (CI No 3,395).
