Motorola Inc is said to be considering the sale of parts or all of its discrete semiconductor business, according to a report in Electronic Buyers News. Vishay Intertechnology Inc is one of the companies named as interested in the business, although ST Microelectronics Inc and other suitors are also interested, said the report. Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector under president Hector Ruiz is continuing its massive restructuring (CI No 3,447). It recently re-organized its Microcontroller Division as part of the company’s Transportation Systems Group. Discrete Semiconductors, part of the Semiconductor Components Group, has its main base in Geneva, Switzerland and US operations in Phoenix, Arizona. It produces standard discrete and integrated circuit products for electronics manufacturers.
