Sitara Networks Inc has licensed Intel Corp’s Quick Web caching and compression technology. Intel gets an equity stake in Sitara and a seat on the board of directors. Intel used to sell Quick Web to consumers through internet service providers (ISPs), but pulled the plug on that business model in July 1998. Sitara says it will use the server-based web caching and image compression software in products aimed at the enterprise. The company hopes to announce products incorporating Quick Web in the second quarter of this year. There are serious problems with the quality of the public network today, said Sitara CEO Malik Khan in a statement. Sitara’s mission – which will be advanced by our licensing of this technology from Intel -is to address the need for a high quality of service.
