Supercom Ltd, the Israeli identification technology provider, is developing a system for PC-based government storage of population information. The scheme will include data gathering, transfer, storage and document issuing, the usual area of expertise of the Kfar Saba firm.
The company is in talks with potential partners for National Population Registry Ltd (NPR), a new subsidiary of Supercom, to provide the data communications in and out of the central database. The partner has a wireless and satellite arm, but it is not primarily a networking firm, says chief operating officer Eli Basson. Apart from the communications element, Supercom has all the technology it needs for the service, says Basson. Supercom anticipates finalizing the partnership plans within weeks.
Although NPR is yet to win a contract, Supercom CEO Eli Rozen is confident of business and plans to increase the company’s staffing from four to 30 in the next six months. Basson says the first system will be installed midway through next year. Rozen expects NPR to generate revenue of $20m next year.
