IBM Corp said Wednesday that it will acquire web-based and enterprise security software vendor Dascom Inc. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but, after closing, Santa Cruz, California-based Dascom will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of IBM.

Big Blue said the acquisition of Dascom’s access control and authorization technology will further strengthen its all- important e-business offerings. The two companies had a working relationship before the deal, as IBM offers Dascom’s flagship IntraVerse software as part of its SecureWay Policy Director and SecureWay FirstSecure suite.

Dascom claims to have pioneered the concept of centralized authorization services for network applications running across various operating environments. It has roughly 100 employees and has sales and development locations in Santa Cruz, California; Austin, Texas; the UK; and Australia. It boasts of many Fortune 100 companies on its client list, including Boeing, Canon and Citibank.

For Dascom, the purchase by IBM was a natural move after the integration of its technology with SecureWay, as it feels it will benefit in its attempt to become a de facto standard for e-business security from IBM’s brand recognition and huge customer base.
