Application integration vendor, Vitria Technology Inc has developed a version of its BusinessWare integration software which automates the interactions between DSL providers, their ISPs and customers. Called BusinessWare for DSL, the software is an out-of-the-box offering for automating and managing the DSL roll-out process, reducing the standard number of steps taken from around 10 to five, according to a spokesperson. In the past, if customers wanted to buy a DSL service it meant going through a laborious series of tasks: contacting an ISP, setting up an account, credit checking, sourcing the DSL modem, invoicing the customer, connecting the device on site and so on.
What BusinessWare for DSL does is automate that process by integrating the software that ISPs and DSL providers use to carry out those individual tasks, for example Clarify for order management, Kenan for billing or Oracle or SAP for order fulfillment. While the offering is based on Vitria’s standard BusinessWare integration product, the company has customized the software by writing code on top that understands the XDML interfaces that telecommunications companies and DSL vendors use to communicate with each other and interchange information today. BusinessWare for DSL is the second vertical offering within the supply chain vertical. Earlier this year, the company launched BusinessWare for RosettaNet. RosettaNet is a consortium of hi- tech manufacturing companies who have got together to define the standards that they need to let their systems communicate and exchange data. BusinessWare for RosettaNet lets those companies communicate while working on the standard and Vitria hopes it will form part of the integration environment going forward, the spokesperson said.
