Dell Computer Corp yesterday became the latest in an ever- increasing line of companies to abandon Novell Inc’s NetWare operating system in favor of Microsoft Corp’s NT. The Austin, Texas based PC giant said it is replacing 225 NetWare servers with 25 NT 4.0 boxes as a quick fix way of making its systems Year 2000 compliant. Under the new infrastructure, Dell also hopes to reduce costs by consolidating all its file and print, applications and web services under one platform. The announcement comes off the back of Microsoft’s release, this week, of Service Pack 4 for NT 4.0. The new software features Year 2000 updates and Euro support among other enhancements.
