Sharp Electronics Corp is planning to set up a software development center in India with an investment of $15m. The firm has approached the Foreign Investment Promotion Board of India (FIPB) and is in the process of selecting a place to house its first development facility in India. The center will be an extension of Sharp Laboratories of US, the R&D wing of Sharp Corp. Sharp’s decision to set up a center in India follows a similar move by a host of consumer electronics firms like Sony, Hitachi and LG Electronics. Sharp’s operations in India will support its multi media communications division.
