The Netscape Communications subsidiary of America Online Inc has launched a revamped Netscape Netcenter designed to help professionals manage their business and personal lives online. The company is seeking to capitalize on research figures which seem to show that Netcenter is popular among people at work. It’s likely, however, that many business which mandate the use of Netscape Navigator as a web browser contain employees who never bother to change Navigator’s default home page setting away from Netcenter. Whether AOL will be able to exploit those artificially inflated audiences with new bells and whistles like Netscape Search, Today’s News, Chat, WebMail and Download remains an open question.
