IBM’s Lotus Development Corp has settled its differences with search and retrieval company Verity Inc by signing a broad licensing agreement to use its technology. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Lotus is to take Sunnyvale, California-based Verity’s KeyView technology across the Lotus product line, and will also use it internally. The licensing agreement resolves issues that had arisen between the two companies. Accordingly, the parties have withdrawn their respective actions against each other said a Lotus statement. Earlier this year, Verity alleged copyright infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets and breach of contract, among other charges (CI No 3,366). The suit stemmed from a 1992 licensing agreement in which Verity licensed certain search software to Lotus for use in its Lotus Notes product. But Lotus publicly announced it was planning to use advanced search and filtering features not covered by the original agreement.
