Forty percent of Australian business directors interviewed in a recent survey say they believe Australia to be lagging behind the rest of the world in terms of telecommunications market competition. The World Communications Report, conducted by Research International and sponsored by British Telecommunications Plc, surveyed 1,000 multinational corporations worldwide, 51 of them in Australia. The study found that 84% of total respondents felt competition would benefit the world economy, and 60% said it would improve local investment. Australian business directors are not alone in the perception that their own market is behind the pace – more than half of all respondents reported a similar perception of their respective domestic markets.
