The UK Alternative Investment Market-listed games firm On-Line Plc is to release a data visualization tool for stock market information as part of a company-wide reinvention as an online financial software house. Previously, the company has focused on providing online games to consumers, but its latest offering is allows real-time data from a stock market to be represented graphically, in an animated 3D format. For example, a user would be able to represent an entire stock market or a portfolio as a mountain range, with the size of each mountain representing the market cap of the company.

On-Line reckons its Edge software will help bring capitalism one step closer to the consumer. US online financial site Quote.com Inc has signed up as first to use the software in a service offering, and On-Line is looking to sell Edge to the many emerging UK equivalents. It will be launched in the fourth quarter.

The deal represents another avenue to the company’s activities. Other than games, it also announced its intention to develop a sports information site for users of NetBet Plc’s online sports betting service. On-Line’s apparent lack of direction may have been reflected in its closing share price last night, which was down almost 4%.
