NVIDIA has unveiled technologies for cloud computing by using the computing capabilities of GPUs.
The cloud GPU technologies are developed based on the company’s new Kepler GPU architecture, designed for use in large-scale data centres.
With its virtualisation capabilities, multiple users can simultaneously share GPUs, the company noted.
NVIDIA president and chief executive officer Jen-Hsun Huang said Kepler cloud GPU technologies shifts cloud computing into a new gear.
"The GPU has become indispensable. It is central to the experience of gamers. It is vital to digital artists realizing their imagination. It is essential for touch devices to deliver silky smooth and beautiful graphics" Huang added.
"And now, the cloud GPU will deliver amazing experiences to those who work remotely and gamers looking to play untethered from a PC or console."
The NVIDIA VGX platform, an enterprise implementation of Kepler cloud technologies supports virtualised desktops, which the company expects will enable enterprises with remote computing, allowing applications to be streamed to a notebook or mobile device.
NVIDIA GeForce GRID, a gaming implementation of Kepler cloud technologies, can be used by Gaming-as-a-service providers to remotely deliver cloud gaming experiences.
