In its latest evaluation of the US printer market, Merrill Lynch & Co finds unit ships increased a whopping 58% because of strong demand from corporates. Hewlett-Packard Co’s share of the market for laser devices that print eleven pages a minute or more is 84% with its LaserJet 4000 leading the way. Lexmark and Xerox follow with much smaller shares. In ink jets HP has a 54.5% share. Its MIDS Modular Ink Delivery System 2000C ink jet printer won’t ship until next month, two months later than expected, because of a component problem. Lexmark has 8.3%, Epson 18.4% and Canon 16.7%.
