Ailing Forte Software Inc announced that chief financial officer Rodger Weismann will be leaving the company, effective immediately. Last month, the Oakland-based application development company reported third-quarter sales that slipped from $17.6m in the prior period to $17.3m, with net losses of $6.3m compared to net profits of $2.5m the same period a year ago (CI No 3,332). The company has been swamped in red ink for three quarters in a row and analysts surveyed by First Call expect the losses to continue through the end of fiscal 1999. Forte has blamed its continuing troubles on a weak market for large-scale enterprise development tools that it feel is a result of the diversion of resources to the Year 2000 problem and a general shortage of qualified programmers. The company would only say that Weismann plans to pursue consulting opportunities with privately-held technology companies. The search for a replacement is underway. In the meantime, Marty Sprinzen, Forte’s president and CEO, will serve as interim CFO.
