Cellular operator BT Cellnet and Freeserve Plc, the UKÆs largest internet service provider, have teamed up to offer internet services via mobile phone. At first Freeserve will offer 140-character email notifications to users of BT CellnetÆs Genie Internet mobile ISP via SMS (Short Message Service), and then the more complex WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) and the higher-speed GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) when they become available. Eventually Freeserve will offer share prices, sports results and the like to subscribers via the service. The partnership is expected to charge subscription fees, with the two companies sharing the revenue. On the news, FreeserveÆs share price rose 28.6% to close at 370 pence.
