NCR Corp delivered 42,440 automated teller machines to customers worldwide, excluding Japan, in 1997 – a 37% increase over the 31,083 units it shipped in 1996. It’s the largest percentage increase since 1988, and puts NCR at the top of the ATM sales list for the eleventh consecutive year. The United States was the fastest growing market at 45% growth, where NCR has doubled shipments since 1995. NCR has a 28.4% share of the market in the US, where the next four biggest suppliers hold 65.7%. The market has been driven by full service ATMs and the off-premise market for ATMs in such locations as gas stations, convenience stores and shopping malls.
