Rocky Mountain Internet Inc, Denver, Colorado-based internet service provider and web development and hosting company, has acquired Aurora, Colorado-based search engine company Infohiway Inc. RMI is handing over 150,000 shares of its common stock which values the deal at $1.2m, based on Thursday’s closing price of $8.19. RMI says it was interested in Infohiway for its search technology DST – short for Data Sucking Technology. DST is said to go out over the web and more or less dissect a web site, delivering the abbreviated content for the viewer in real time. By using a special button on Infohiway’s site, searchers can preview a sort of synopsis of a site’s content by removing all of the graphics and extraneous HTML. In addition to its search engine, Infohiway has two web publications targeted at web page developers. The company’s main two developers and founders, Jeremy Black and Ken Covell, will join the RMI management team and will continue to develop and market the products of Infohiway.
