The European market for CD-ROM educational software is set to boom over the next year according to recent figures from analysts Datamonitor, with sales predicted to grow 78% to around $180m by the end of 1998. Sales of titles have been sluggish up to now but the market research firm says the rapid expansion will be fueled by lower software prices, the growing installed base of home multimedia PCs and the release of several national curricular-based titles. Datamonitor says the success of recent releases in the reference market means it is now larger than the education market.
