US IT services provider Computer Sciences Corp has increased its presence in the Italian market, acquiring four companies from the Progres services and consulting group, for an unspecified sum.

The companies bought by CSC are Progres 2, Progres Iniziativa, Progres Progetti and Progres Veneto. The El Segundo, California-based company said they will now operate under the name CSC Progres, with headquarters in Milan and offices in Padua, Rome, Bologna, Ravenna and Trento and will report to CSC’s European Group, headquartered in Farnborough, UK.á

The four companies, which employ about 700 people, had collective revenues of $62m last year, 70% of which came from systems integration and application development. Other activities include sales of software and hardware, outsourcing and consulting activities.

This is the second acquisition by CSC in Italy this month, the first being Turin-based Informatica Group SpA, a services company with annual revenues of $30m. Elsewhere in Europe, CSC picked up KPMG Peat MarwickÆs Paris-based management consulting and IT consultancy practice late last year, as well as, in December, the German consultancy Pergamon GmbH from Wurzburg and Dutch services firm Sys-Aid.
