Multilayer Technology Inc, the Niwot, Colorado-based subsidiary of electronic design and manufacturing service provider DII Group Inc, is to buy Hewlett Packard CoÆs Printed Circuit Organization, PRCO, in Boeblingen, Germany. PCRO manufactures printed circuit boards for HP divisions, but more recently has also been supplying outside customers. The sale includes property, plant and equipment, and certain intellectual property rights, and all existing employees will be offered jobs. Multilayer, better known as Multek, is expected to include to win a three-year supply agreement to provide boards to HP for use in its servers, workstations, test and instrumentation, and medical products once negotiations have been concluded. Terms of the proposed sale are not being disclosed. Dovatron International, the contract electronics manufacturing unit of DII, has an assembly operation in Ireland that is apparently keen to purchase printed circuit boards from the continent. HP is one of DIIÆs largest customers.
