Register.com Inc, the first domain name registrar to enter into direct competition with Network Solutions Inc back in June has launched its own affiliate program, whereby other web sites provide a link straight back to Register’s registration page and get a small slice of the fee Register.com charges for each registration in .com and other domain names.

Rich Forman, Register’s CEO says the affiliates get 10% of the net cost of registrations, which in the case of .com, .net and .org that means $70 minus the $18 the NSI registry charges. The fee differs from registry to registry and Register.com processes names in 20 national registries as well as the generic ones.

Forman says the company already has some 6,000 partners that are in effect affiliates that get paid nothing. Forman describes them as avid fans that like to have a Register.com link on their site. Register is using Microsoft’s Corp’s ClickTrade service to do the tracking to collect the commissions and it also takes a small percentage. ClickTrade is part of MSN LinkExchange.
