Hewlett-Packard Co, which was sued for patent infringement last week by Xerox Corp (CI No 3,411), is facing another suit – this time from Micro Solutions Inc, a Dekalb, Illinois-based manufacturer of peripheral storage devices. The suit alleges patent infringement by Hewlett-Packard’s CD-Writer Plus 7200e external CD-Rewriter product, and others. The technology in question is used in Micro Solutions backpack external storage products. Through the use of the technology, A storage device is attached to the parallel printer port of the host PC and the system provides automatic pass-through of printer data. Damages sought in the suit were not disclosed. Micro Solutions’ backpack CD-rewriter, a parallel port interface CD-RW drive, is scheduled for shipment in June.
