NCR CorpÆs Teradata division says itÆs seen a 360% growth rate in those of its customers with data warehouses holding over one terabyte in size over the past 18 months, from 14 to 50. Retail, financial, telecommunications, transportation and government customers are in the majority, with the retail sector leading the way. Giant reseller WalMart, with 2,700 US stores and $104.8bn in sales during fiscal 1997, has a 96 node, 16-terabyte system, and a total warehouse capacity of 24 terabytes in place. Sears Roebuck & Co has a 14 terabyte capacity warehouse, Kmart has eight terabytes and JCPenney 2.2 terabytes. The other companies in TeradataÆs largest ten customers are Reuters UK, Sagawa Express Mail Japan, the US Internal Revenue Service, Belgian telecomms company Belgacom NV, AT&T CMD, AT&T Business Markets Division and France Telecom SA.
