Computer Associates International Inc said it will soon be introducing real-time intelligent analytic tools with the next release of its Jasmine object database. The company showcased Jasmine TND at Networld + Interop this week having integrated the Neugents (neural network agent) technology it obtained from the acquisition of AIWare in 1997.
Neugents is a modeling tool that enables users to make predictions of future events based on past results, explains Jay Huff, CA’s European director of advanced technology. With the Jasmine TND, the key advantage is that users will be able to conduct real-time queries on the data using pre-defined data parameters, he said. Once the parameters are established, Jasmine automatically sets the weightings of each to produce the most accurate results. The self-learning mechanism in Neugents means its predictions will improve with time and quantity of data, but the application initially requires around 3 months of historical results and four days to configure for new types of data queries, says Huff.
CA says the intelligent features have applications in predicting buyer behavior and outcomes of complex manufacturing processes. CA integrated the technology into its Unicenter TNG, network management product at the end of last year, to enable managers to predict network failures before they occurred, says Huff.
CA has also beefed up the graphics capabilities of Jasmine, adding support for a number of new media formats, including streaming media and 3D imaging, and extended interoperability to new data types, such as email, directories and stock market feeds.
Jasmine TND is currently in limited beta with a selected number of existing customers. The company says it will reveal more at its annual CA World conference in New Orleans in July, after which the product will be generally available for beta testing. No details of final availability and pricing have been decided.
