The Siemens Pyramid Information Systems Inc subsidiary of Siemens Nixdorf Informationssystemes AG has taken the wraps off a host of new servers at the CeBIT trade show in Hanover. The servers include offerings for the high end mainframe market down to the entry level small businesses and small networks. Siemens Nixdorf claims its new additions contribute towards its aim of catering for a spectrum of customers at all levels. At the high end the company will introduce the mainframe S115 BS2000 / OSD Business Server, which Siemens Nixdorf claims will offer users a cost effective option for operating mission critical applications and online transaction processing. It is powered by up to three CMOS processors, and can combine up to 16 S115 systems or BS2000 / OSD models to form a highly integrated System Complex cluster. The RM600 E30 and E70 are high end Unix enterprise servers running on a 64-bit processor which Siemens Nixdorf claims ensures maximum performance and compatibility, and both offer disk storage capacities up to 10Tb and the E70 scales up to 24 250 MHz MIPS R10000 processors. Moving down the scale, the RM300 E and RM400 E have been designed to be used as departmental or workgroup servers. The RM300 E is intended for the entry-level Unix market, while the RM400 E is capable of running off of up to four 250MHz R1000 processors. Both are said to be highly scalable, easily upgradeable and cluster ready. The lowest model in the new servers is the Primergy 260, a uniprocessor server running on the Pentium II. The company claims it has low operating costs and is perfectly suited for the small business network. It is certified for Windows NT, NetWare, SCO Unix and IBM OS/2. The S115 and Primergy 260 models will be available in April, the RM 600 E in May, while the RM300 E and RM400 E are available immediately.
