The Japanese version of Windows 98 is expected to be released on July 24 or 25, a month later than the US version (CI No 3,373). Japanese personal computer manufacturers will introduce new PCs with the new operating system pre installed, in conjunction with the official launch. But there is concern that because of the delay of the release date, manufacturers will miss out on selling Windows 98 during the summer sales season and will be forced to introduce new versions of Windows 95 to cater for this period. But upgrades to 98 from 95, which are likely to be free, will be available as of May ahead of the release date.
