Apple has bought Anobit, an Israeli flash storage technology maker, whose chips are an essential component of the iPads.
Anobits chips are said to enhance iPads flash drive performance.
A financial journal of Calcalist reported last month that Apple was interested in Anobit’s technology, speculating it would go ahead and buy the firm in order to improve the performance and memory volume of its devices.
Reports say negotiations went on for two weeks before they fructified. The deal’s value has been pegged at $500 million.
Apple spokesman Alan Hely said his firm buys smaller technology companies from time to time and would not generally reveal the plans and strategies associated with such moves, as another spokesman Steve Dowling confirmed the acquisition but would not comment on the price.
The new iPads and MacBooks will now have double the memory volume with Anobit’s technology.
