Asia is likely to provide the fastest growing market for the wireless industry. Nortel is offering its GSM, CDMA and UMTS mobile technologies in an attempt to encourage offers from Asian vendors.
Nortel deployed wireless technology worth $1 billion to China in 2001. The company currently has networks in 17 Chinese provinces out of 31. Nortel also expects to be short-listed to join 3G trials for China Mobile and China Unicom within three weeks.
