Deskartes knowledge management software was implemented on a help desk at BNFL’s headquarters at Risley, Warrington in March 2001 to satisfy the need for their site security personnel to respond quickly to inbound security enquiries from BNFL offices worldwide.
At a recent post-implementation review, Carol Higson, BNFL’s Site Security Manager said We are absolutely delighted with the system; not only does it have the ability to respond to and satisfy security enquiries from around the world but it also compliments our internal training requirements.
KMS will be exploring other opportunities within BNFL that require a knowledge management solution.
NHSIA have also implemented Deskartes in a pilot version of the National Electronic Library for Health designed to deliver significant improvement to their existing levels of service for search and retrieval of knowledge. The first phase will be supporting a clinical answering service called ‘ATTRACT’ that can receive questions from General Practitioners in Wales, search a number of web based resources and provide an answer.
Dr Ben Toth, Head of Knowledge Management at the NHSIA, said ‘If the pilot is a success, the software could in theory be escalated to the web allowing registered users to have direct access to the database’.
