Palladium involves the creation of a secure vault in order to store encrypted data. It is believed that consumers would have to buy a new computer incorporating advanced chips and new operating system software to be able to run the new security software.
Microsoft has been developing Palladium for some time but does not expect the product to become publicly available until the beginning of 2004.
