This will enable ONE to offer a multitude of innovative services and payment methods to their customers ahead of the competition.

Connect Austria, Austria’s leading mobile operator acquired a UMTS licence in November 2000 and are currently planning to maximise returns on its UMTS licence investment. It needed a solution able to support an innovative convergent service offering and grow with its business. ONE’s subscriber numbers have risen dramatically from 0.5 million at the end of 1999 to reach over 1.5 million by the summer of 2001. In addition ONE has an ambitious timescale for the migration project, in particular because of the requirement to be ready for full Euro-compliance by the end of 2001; the company’s legacy system was not fully Euro-compliant.

The project will simplify ONE’s back-end systems so all customers can be billed efficiently regardless of the services they are using be they fixed, wireless, 2.5G or 3G. The flexible and future-proofed billing solution is critical for ONE to remain a leader in offering innovative convergent services such as mobile commerce.

Peter Pedersen, CIO of ONE, said: There is no time for a long learning curve in offering next generation services. Competitive pressures demand that we work with partners who are leaders in innovation and have a proven track record in migrating large scale, business critical systems. We entrusted the second phase of our billing upgrade to Logica after it successfully implemented Geneva for billing earlier this year within very challenging time scales.

In February it was announced by Logica and Convergys that ONE had selected Geneva to support the delivery of its GPRS services. Logica was responsible for the successful integration of the Geneva software into the existing mediation, CRM and bill presentment environment.

John Coleman, Group Telecoms director, Logica says: ONE faces the continuous challenge of responding to competitive pressures and rising customer expectations for next generation services.

He continued: The business-critical systems behind these new technologies are complex enough, but they also need to be seamlessly integrated into the existing systems, such as CRM and bill presentment. Only by doing this will it ensure its customer base receives continuously high levels of customer service regardless of what service they are using.

The solution we are implementing will enable ONE to meet its strategic business objectives for offering the latest convergent, next generation and e-commerce services whilst still bringing down the cost of ownership for the business support infrastructure.

The project is one of a series of GSM billing migrations implemented globally, demonstrating Logica’s extensive skills and experience in delivering Geneva based solutions.
