Akamai Technologies Inc said yesterday it has signed a deal with NTT Communications Corp to deploy and operate a content delivery network servers on NTT's network in its native Japan. NTT will market the network, which will interconnect with Akamai's global CDN, as Broadband CDN Powered by Akamai.
Akamai entered Japan in 2001 with a 40-60 joint venture with Softbank Broadmedia Corp, but sold its stake to Softbank last December. The old joint venture is now an Akamai reseller called CDN Services KK and Akamai has a separate Japanese subsidiary.
