mm02 delays 3G development until demand is proven

mm02 is to postpone the development of its next generation 3G services. The company, which demerged from BT last year, says it will wait until it is sure about consumer demand for 3G.

The decision to develop services further will depend on numerous factors. These include the availability of handsets that are compatible with both its current and 3G networks, and demand for the service.

mm02 has between GBP3 billion and GBP4 billion of funds ready to develop 3G networks. The company holds 3G licenses in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands. It could also have a license for Ireland by the end of March.
