4% of the company’s contract users were inactive, while 12% of the prepaid users don’t use their phone. Compared to last year’s statistics this shows that the levels of inactivity remained the same for contract users but fell for prepaid customers, where 1% less used their mobile last year.
The company also announced that data revenues as a percentage of service revenues for its controlled subsidiaries increased to 9.1% in the year to 30 September 2001. For the group as a whole this figure was 7.1% for the year.
Sir Christopher Gent, Vodafone’s CEO said, This quarter’s numbers represent an improved performance in the group’s operations, with customer growth ahead of our expectations, despite the reduction in handset subsidies. The continuing stability in ARPU [Average Revenue Per User] is encouraging, particularly as it is occurring a year before we had anticipated. The increase in our data indicators confirms we are on track to meet our data revenue targets.
