Siemens is currently the third biggest handset maker in terms of sales; it controls around 7.5% of the worldwide handset market. An agreement should enable the company to consolidate its position within the industry.
Siemens believes that its future lies in providing personalized products on an open platform. It is currently developing a ‘pendant phone’ to be worn around the neck, which combines a phone, camera and MP3 player in one package.
