The deal, announced Tuesday, will see SCO buy Vultus’ WebFace Solution Suite, a development environment based on XML, JavaScript and HTML used to build web-based user interfaces.
SCO called the deal a key element of SCOx, announced in May. SCOx is designed to re-invigorate SCO’s user base and channel by bringing it into the web services world.
According to SCO, SCOx will enable users to integrate SCO-based applications with web services applications developed for both Microsoft Corp’s .NET and Java, enable users to access legacy applications online, and enable resellers to sell applications via a subscription model.
Vultus had previously collaborated with SCO on building the developer toolkit portion of SCOx. WebFace Solution Suite, comprising the WebFace Browser Application Platform and WebFace Studio, uses WebFace Application Markup Language (WAML) to describe their interface and a library of more than 80 objects that can be delivered to a browser, without the need for a browser plug-in or Java.
The stock-based deal is valued at $2.7m and will also see Vultus’ 12 employees transfer to SCO.
