The leading-edge technology provided by AT&T Canada will upgrade CBC’s

current private information technology voice and data network. The new network

allows for greater speed and efficiency in the delivery of information over

AT&T Canada’s network, one of the most advanced and reliable networks in the

world. Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology transmits data in small

cells over a high-speed switching platform that enables voice, video or data

to travel quickly over a network.

AT&T Canada’s data network solution positions the CBC to access bandwidth

on demand – one of the CBC’s key requirements in order to provide high quality

distinctive programming to Canadians at all times.

We’re delighted to work with AT&T Canada using their innovative ATM

solution, said Francine Lauzon, CBC’s Executive Director of Information

Technology. We are looking forward to a significant network performance

improvement and the opportunity to potentially implement some of the

multimedia applications on this new network.

AT&T Canada is proud to work in partnership with the CBC and to support

its mandate through our leading edge technology and expertise, said Mark

Ethier, Executive Vice President, Sales, AT&T Canada. This contract

demonstrates our commitment to provide value-added services for our

customers.

Using Lucent ATM switches and Cisco routers, the network will be

interconnected to AT&T Canada’s national and global network with access to

over 280 countries worldwide. It will also provide capacity for growth at the

CBC.

As part of the total solution, AT&T Canada is providing technical

expertise and network management services for the CBC. AT&T Canada will also

become the CBC’s primary provider of high speed Internet service, which will

effectively transmit the CBC’s content-rich multimedia materials.
