Once deployed, the network provides Dynegy with access to approximately 85 POPs in select metro areas.
Top U.S. markets scheduled for immediate deployment include New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, Seattle, and Miami. Additional metro networks are scheduled for completion by the fall of 2001. The agreement provides for expansion into additional metro areas if demand warrants.
Metropolitan optical networks enable communications customers to seamlessly move data, voice and Internet traffic between multiple locations within major metropolitan areas. This agreement will provide customers with multiple pathing solutions between and within metro areas to give them access to most major suppliers and consumers of wholesale bandwidth, including carriers, Application Service Providers (ASPs), Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and enterprise markets.
The network agreement with Telseon is an ideal extension of the Dynegy Global Communications long-haul network, as it uniquely positions us to provide our customers with an end-to-end, scalable, high bandwith optical solution — the ultimate wholesale value proposition, said Larry McLernon, chairman and chief executive officer, Dynegy Global Communications. We are pleased to have structured an innovative alliance that further advances our strategy, provides a unique offering, delivers time-to-market savings of 12 to 18 months, and remains within our capital expenditures budget.
This partnership marks the beginning of a new era in business communications, where these traditionally distinct industries are fusing their assets to create a dynamic B2B network, said John Kane, chief executive officer at Telseon. We are pleased to be the first metropolitan optical network provider to work with Dynegy, a Fortune 100 energy and communications leader, to set the standard for robust, data networks.
As Dynegy has consistently stated, connectivity is critical to success in this space, and Dynegy’s network agreement with Telseon expands our wholesale reach deep into the top metro markets in the U.S., complementing our existing long-haul network, said Pat Marburger, president, Dynegy Broadband Marketing and Trading. Marburger added, This strategy breaks the bottleneck of long-haul bandwidth capacity entering major metro markets, thus driving liquidity crucial to the development of a robust trading environment.
