Telia had initially outlined the closure of the service in 1998, with the large majority of customers having been transferred by today. The remaining 27,000 subscriptions which hadn’t been ceased or transferred to other subscription forms were deregistered by March 31 this year.
Telia terminated the NMT 900 network due to frequency shortages and the growing popularity of digital mobile technology such as GSM in 1998. The company was most importantly able to hold onto the majority of its customers.
