WorldCom resold airtime on behalf of many of the US’ major networks, and has now sold most of its customers to the networks that they are connected to. These include AT&T Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Alltel, and a fourth network that was not disclosed. People will be able to keep their existing phone numbers.

The fourth network isn’t Cingular Wireless, however. WorldCom is still in talks with Cingular over transferring the customers who bought Cingular airtime from it. The other deals were closed before WorldCom entered bankruptcy protection. Although the company was paid little or nothing for these customers, it will save $700 million a year by winding the wireless division up.
